16 Km River Rafting: Shivpuri to Nim Beach
About
This is the one everyone talks about, and for good reason. The Shivpuri to Nim Beach run is Rishikesh's most popular rafting stretch, and it's easy to see why once you hit rapids like Roller Coaster and Golf Course, both proper Grade III and III+ thrillers that'll have your raft bouncing and your heart racing.
What makes it special:
- A genuine mix of adrenaline and calm, recovery pools follow every big rapid, so even non-swimmers can enjoy the ride with confidence
- Named rapids with big personalities, Return to Sender, Club House, Double Trouble, and Hilton all make an appearance
- Cliff jumping and body surfing breaks built into the calmer stretches, plus sweeping views of the Garhwal Himalayas the whole way down
It's the sweet spot between mild and wild, exciting enough to feel like a real adventure, controlled enough that you'll want to do it again the next day.
Getting There
Shivpuri sits about 16 km up the Badrinath Highway from Rishikesh, roughly a 30 to 45 minute drive, and operators handle the pickup from their Tapovan office. The nearest airport is Jolly Grant, Dehradun, about 20 to 22 km from Rishikesh, a 45 to 60 minute drive. Haridwar is the closest major railhead at around 25 km, with Rishikesh's own station also on the line. Delhi is about 250 km away by road, making this an easy weekend trip. Rafting runs September through mid June, paused during the monsoon for safety, with the best water clarity from October through May. Quick-dry clothes, river sandals, and a locked bag for your valuables are the way to go.
